  • No vigorous exercise for 12 hours
  • Fast 4 hours before (water is fine)
  • No caffeine, alcohol, or stimulants for 4 hours
  • Wear comfortable workout clothes and shoes
  • Be ready for a progressively challenging effort

What To Expect

You’ll wear a mask that measures oxygen and carbon dioxide while exercising on a treadmill or bike. Intensity increases gradually until you reach your maximum effort.


The session is scheduled for 60 minutes (test time is usually 10–20 minutes) and includes explanation of your results and next steps.
